Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Retires

The Finisher is Finished!

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, a Man Utd legend after scoring the injury-time winner in the Champions League final in 1999, has confirmed and announced his retirement woing to the persistent knee problem. The 34 yrs old, moved to Old Trafford 11 years ago for a bargain 1.5 million pounds, from Molde, will remain at the club in a coaching capacity and will represent United as an official ambassador.

Although he scored 11 goals in 32 matches in United title-winning campaign last term, he was not always available. His last appearance came in the FA Cup final loss to Chelsea in May.

In the long term, Solskjaer name will continue to be sung at Old Trafford, where he was virtually an unknown when he joined United. But his slight built and boyish appearance belied a remarkable predatory instint which resulted in the nickname "Baby-Faced Assassin."

"The substitute from Hell" was how United Gaffer Alex Ferguson, writing in his autobiography, described the player who became renowned for making an impact after stepping off the bench. He scored 19 mins of the 8-1 rout of Nottingham Forest in Feb 1999. In total, he scored 126 goals in 365 games and collected six Premier League winners medals. For Norway, he netted 23 goals in 67 appearances.

Former Norway national coach Egil Olsen once said: "He was not good in the air nor had tremendous pace, but he had the uncanny ability to be at the right place at the right time and rarely missed in one-on-one situations".

Indeed, it is the farewell to a Unique Strker, a legendary Red Devils...
